All About Vivaldi

Our class is named after Vivaldi, who is a famous violinist and composer. Vivaldi was born in Italy in 1678 and died in 1741 and this was known as the Baroque period of music. Vivaldi was taught to play the violin by his father and became a music teacher in an orphanage after a brief time spent as a priest.

Many people think Vivaldi was the best Italian composer of his time. He wrote concertos, operas, church music and many other compositions. In all, Antonio wrote over 500 concertos. His music is very well known all around the world and his most famous work is The Four Seasons, which he composed in the 1720s. The Four Seasons are violin concertos which depict natural scenes in music. The inspiration for this music was the countryside in Italy and in this music he represents the sounds of rivers, singing birds, buzzing mosquitoes, children ice-skating and burning fires by using different instruments.
