Welcome to Thomas Edison Group. The 'TEd Room' class is a specialist classroom established within the Resourced Provision, and caters for children who have complex needs which means they need a provision which goes above and beyond the standard RP offer.
Our TEd children have multi sensory needs, such as deafness and autism and as such need a bespoke, adapted curriculum which supports their multiple needs. Whilst learning activities do encompass Maths and English at a level the children are able to access, the provision also has a focus on sensory needs and offers a suite of such things depending on the needs of the learner. Children in TEd class have the support to learn British Sign Language as a form of communication and have daily access to our Deaf instructor alongside our specialist support workers, however we use a 'whole communication approach' so they may also be supported through object or pictorial references to develop their communication ability. Children also have the opportunity to mix with their RP peers, alongside mainstream children, where this is safe and appropriate to do so. We have a strong focus on developing children's social, emotional and mental health alongside communication and interaction with others. Children in TEd are supported and encouraged to be as independent as possible with their everyday needs, this includes incorporating life skills into their daily routines.
